There’s something magical about water—it’s where I feel most alive, most at peace, and most connected to myself and the world around me. Its fluidity, its calmness, its power—it’s always been a source of inspiration and comfort throughout my life. Simply put water calms the soul

Water- one of my oldest friends

Some of my earliest memories are tied to the water. I remember the joy of gleefully splashing in puddles after a summer rain, the kind where the air feels electric and the smell of wet earth lingers. I can still picture the excitement of racing down the swim lanes as part of Manhattan Marlins swim team, the sound of cheers echoing off the pool walls and the camaraderie I felt with my teammates. The butterfly stroke was my favorite—powerful, graceful, free—it made me feel like I was flying through the water. Those teammates became lifelong friends, bound not just by our shared love of the pool, but by the hours we spent pushing each other to be better, faster, stronger.

Then came the ocean. I will never forget the first time I swam in its vast expanse. I felt humbled by its rhythm, its unending waves, its sheer magnitude. It was so much more than just water—it was alive, breathing, almost otherworldly. It reminded me of how small I am and how immense and beautiful the world truly is. Standing on the shore, watching the waves crash endlessly, I felt both insignificant and deeply connected to something far greater than myself.

Googles, Swim, Cap, and Water at City Park Pool, Manhattan KSThese days, I still find time for swimming at the City pool just blocks from my home. I love the meditative rhythm of the strokes, the way the world seems to melt away with each lap I complete. It’s not just exercise—it’s a form of mindfulness, a way to reset and recharge. But my passion for water has grown far beyond the pool.

Continuing to Discover New Aquatic Adventures

I’ve taken to kayaking through quiet waterways on overnight trips with friends, where the only sounds are the gentle splash of the paddle and the rustling of leaves. I’ve felt the pull of the waves while learning to surf in Australia whenever I visit my son—it’s exhilarating, humbling, and endlessly fun all at once. There’s something so special about being out on the open water, surrounded by its power and beauty, savoring the simplicity of each aquatic adventure.

Water has been one of my greatest teachers over the years. It has taught me about perseverance—how to keep going even when the current feels strong, how to adapt and flow as life inevitably changes. It has taught me about tranquility—how to be still, to breathe deeply, and to appreciate the quiet moments. And it has taught me about joy—those simple, fleeting moments of pure connection with nature that remind me how magical the world can be.

Whether you’re a swimmer, an adventurer, or just someone who loves a seaside stroll, I hope you take a moment to experience all that water has to offer. Let it teach you, inspire you, and renew you. You might just discover something extraordinary.
